It has rained all night and day and this is Inspection day. Every man’s outfit was made complete again. A good many had lost their canteen and some their haversacks in previous battles. Our rations are poor and short. The captain bought a small hog which we butchered and are in one meal. Some more troops are landing and pitching their tents south of us. The camp already extends over a mile long. [Frank] Shanaberger, [Samuel] Hagen, [Louis] Coyner and [John] Turley are on the sick list.
