It has rained all night but the morning is clear and very hot until 3 o’clock when we had a sun shower. We had fifteen guards out today. In the evening, we had battalion dress parade. I also had my application returned to me which was disapproved much to my disappointment. At least to my belief, I blame the Captain for it which I frankly told him (will not write the reasons). We also took a vote to buy ice every day. I voted against it for I think it will injure us more than do us good. But, it passed by a majority. [George] Knotts, [George] Conn and [Charles] Herrington were on the sick list.
