Diary of Alfred Burton Welch

August 27th Sunday 1899

Emmett Robb, Lamar and I went in a canoe to Pasig, going thro’ St Anna and TiPas. It is all a Venice, and hundreds of husky niggers are there. Guess we will be relieved by 37th Vets tomorrow. Our guard went down to the “Pennsylvania” who is slow, and the “Parra” was given to some other troops. Another case of the Wash. getting the worst of it.
