Diary of Karl D. White

18th Nov. 1899

On guard again. Between “posts” I borrowed a pole (budweiss) and caught a fish (a-sun) shaped like a cat fish except that it had a narrow, unsplit, tail and was a scale fish. They have thecatfish here, like we have at home. We made taffy to a finish. We stopped 3 cart loads of stuff and sent them back to the Col. He took several dozen bottles each of Manilla and Pabst beer & some Bevs from them and turned them loose with only a little box of cigars tobacco & cigarettes to show for the big haul they had.
