Diary of Juan Labrador, O.P.

March 7, 1942

The war started exactly three months ago. Yesterday, the press announced the fall of Batavia, capital of the Dutch Indies. The rest of the Allied troops in the Pacific will have to either capitulate or be annihilated.

In ninety days, Japan conquered territories with more than a hundred million inhabitants. She has been jumping from one island and peninsula to another, like a circus acrobat, crushing the whole Anglo-American-Dutch forces with their native allies.

They say that ju-jitsu consists in utilizing the force and weight of the opponent against himself. Japan is employing the most spectacular ju-jitsu on an international scale. The whole ABCD front is crumbling like a game of chess which hardly started is already coming to an end in a resounding checkmate.
