October 1, 1942

Today makes four months since Coné was taken prisoner and I am wondering how well he is doing on his meager rations.

We are packing to leave this place early tomorrow before daylight. We no longer feel safe in this house and we are going to Estrella’s (a relative) farm, about 15 km north. Conditions have become very serious again. The USAFFE plan on entering Pototan any day now and since we are only 11 km away, we will be too close to the fighting, especially if the Japanese send reinforcements and they pass close to Barotac. So we must get away.
