September 24, 1944

This morning I decided to go back home to stay, but we had barely reached the house when the sirens began blowing. We all went downstairs to our shelter. Ten minutes later we heard the drone of planes. They started to circle and some headed for Iloilo, while others headed for the air field. The planes flew over our house and began to open fire. (Later we found empty shells in the yard.) The air field was bombed and machine gunned many times. The dockyards and storehouses along the Iloilo river were hit. The raid lasted 11⁄2 hours. We had to eat our lunch at 2:00 p.m. After lunch we heard the drone of planes again. They were flying very high and flew in the direction of Santa Barbara. Then we heard the sound of bombing and machine gunning. The “All Clear” was sounded at 6:00 p.m.
