The price of rice is almost sky high – 8,000 Pesos a sack – red rice is 5,500 Pesos a sack. Canned salmon is 150 Pesos a can, a small cake of Palmolive soap is 60 Pesos. Beef is 150 Pesos a kilo.

This morning two Japanese soldiers came to get the census. One asked me if the USAFFE slept in the empty houses near us. They are suspicious of these houses. All I could say was that as far as we know, no USAFFE soldiers slept there.
