Conducted Saturday AM inspection and found hospital in good condition. Was slightly embarrassed because of the fact that several ranking officers 5 of whom were former CO’s, were standing at attention by their bunks as I passed, but all were good sports. Talked with Mr. Kubola who o’kayed a 5:00 PM vesper service on Sundays, but said nothing about Japan draft or special detail.

Major Roby is able to run the mess with our designated personnel and 5 extra KP‘s so far. General complaints about the mess have quieted down. Four men on Japanese pay-roll, Jackson, Graff, Backhous and Lang, were fired, not for inefficiency, but because not needed.

Two communicators USN, left today by Japanese order for special duty.
