Diary of Louise Fillmore Blancaflor

January 25, 1945

Many planes passed over today, but there was no bombing in the vicinity of Iloilo, although we could hear bombing from afar.

The price of food has reached the limit! I do not believe the war prices in Europe can surpass ours at present. One egg costs 50 Pesos; a kilo of pork is 1,000 pesos; 1 kilo of beef costs 600 Pesos; 1 kilo of sugar, 50 Pesos. One bar of PMC laundry soap costs 2,500 Pesos! A new cotton dress costs 3,000 Pesos! We have already converted our drapes and curtains into dresses.
