I woke up at 4:30 a.m. I had a fair night. I shaved and went to 7 a.m. Holy Mass at San Beda Church. Father Columbano arranged a mass for me alone. There being no sermon it was finished in 20 minutes.
Went to Lourdes Hospital to visit Ambassador Nieto and Charito Legarda who had a heart attack last night. She was then rushed to the hospital. I gave her a strong talk on the dangers and effects of smoking on the health of individuals. I told her: “I know that I am talking to the wind. You will just laugh and at my talk. What you do with your body and your health is your problem, but I remind you of an important factor. Think of your children. You have a lovely family and beautiful children. Do not exchange them for the pleasure of cigarette puffs.”
