Manila, Luzon Island –Entry made in parlor of No. 2 Calle Santa Elena, Tondo.

Gloomy day. Slow falling, steady rain.

Remained at home. Spent considerable time readings. ___ Visitors today 9.

Wrote a letter to Staff Captain F. Symons of Hongkong, China, explaining my wishes re Kodak films. Sent him 2 underdeveloped films – 24 exposures – to be developed & 2 first made from each; also 46 developed films with request to print 2 pictures from each on paper that will not fade in this climate. Sent the letters, the films & $5 mexican silver by Bro. B.G. Randall, British Bible Society agent. Am sending to Hongkong because Manila photographers have too much money.

Bro. H. M. Hanson, seaman on the monitor “Monadnock”, called to see me. Welcomed him & had prayer.

Gave Rev. & Mrs. Owens bread & cornmeal & took dinner with them. They are getting short of money – about $5 left. Have sent word to Bishop McCabe for more funds. I have loaned and given them food, neighbor fashions, several times. They also invite me to take meals with them occasionally. Am on good terms. Loan them chairs when company comes.

Wrote Capt. Dyer, that I will (D.V.) hold service on his vessel, the cruiser “Baltimore” next Sabbath forenoon.

Arranged with Private Waterman, Co. H. 1st Battallion 1st South Dakota Vol. Inf. to hold a meeting in their quarters tomorrow evening in San Miguel at 7.p.m.

Private Harris and Hiffenstine of the 3d artillery also called & a meeting was decided to be held Thursday p.m.

Private D. G. Hines wanted a gramophone exhibition for the Montana troops. I objected giving a free exhibition & suggested a series of pay exhibitions in the regiments. Tickets to be sold in advance 25 cts. each U.S. coin by comrades. Hines, Berry, Waterman, Bertrand & Annie agreed to sell tickets in their respective commands. By this means I may raise money to pay for the machine & have money for the other purposes.

While washing dishes, Private Jas Cassidy of Battery K, 3d regiment Artillery came in. After conversions sometime ago, he wrote his people they’ve good news. They rejoiced. Letter of this character reached him today. He back in sin again. Shuddered when he read the missive. Came back to Jesus. His sister is a Salvationist, Napa City, Cal.
