Relieved at 7.30 by Co’s C & F 1st Wn. Marched home for breakfast. All shops closed, hardly any native on the streets & from every native hut flies a black flag. Something is in the wind –How I wish they would make a break. Co. inspection in p.m. Found out that today, Sat & Sun are feast days. Today being in honor of Jose Rizal, a well educated Filipino Medical Doctor, who, after completing a course of study in Madrid, Paris & London and returning to Manila, espoused the Filipino cause and being captured was betrayed by Padres Espanas and publicly shot on the Luneta, by order of the Spanish Gov. General, on the 30th day of Dec. 1897. In eve we sang for the North Dakotas and the 14th U.S. Inf. A great reception. Home very late.
