Considerable firing last evening and early this morning by rebels on our left centre. We replied last evening by a few volleys and a number of shots with our 1″.65 Hotchkiss guns. Letter from Romayne yesterday — says 19″ has intimation that it will go South under Lawton in near future. Believe it will come here & operate with us while 4″ & 14″ & possibly others operate towards us from Manila Bay. Very little rain for last week.

William Herman Wilhelm
(1867 — 1901), Captain, Company B, 21st U.S. Infantry. Killed in action in the Philippines.
