Friday, August 23, 1901, Manila

We came ashore this morning. Rain, rain, rain, but cool withal. All of us bachelors are quartered in the old bamboo barracks at the Exposition Grounds. We get our meals at a restaurant maintained by a Chinese contractor Ah Gong for our particular benefit. We pay $1.10 a day. We are told that we shall hardly get out of Manila within two or three weeks.
