No Happy New Year today! Manila radio stations quiet during morning. Last station (government operated) 12:45 news broadcast was heartrending. Tears in announcer’s voice as he said this station must go off the air like all other Manila stations. Director of Bureau of Information and Propaganda (De Cavrila Orias) asked radio audience in the Philippines to join him in Lord’s Prayer, emphasizing the part “Thy will be done.” No explanation given of why station going off, of how far away the Japanese are, or whether Manila has already fallen.
