[Reynolds B.] North of the High Commissioner’s staff died suddenly last night. The day started off well with Alert at 7 a.m., another Alert in p.m. but no raids. Report that landing operations are being repulsed in Leyte. Clarence Belial says “Better Leyte than never!” [at wakeup call]. Also story of Vigan and Laoag. Althea made her best (and probably last) steamed bread. No celebration of Mary’s birthday as materials and energy are lacking. My office is not moving but most of the others are going to restaurant Building.
