Expect a real landing on Luzon within a few days. Got % kilo each of sugar issued by Japanese—probably the last. The last of our camp reserve of corned beef was issued today. Australians said to be taking part with [Admiral] Halsey in landings. Report that US has given Japan until Monday (23rd) to make Manila an Open City and get out, otherwise [there will be] heavy action against Japanese cities.
