There is fish today, pork tonight, and camote tops! Meals have improved the last fortnight. 100 eggs came in and are to be used for general diet, scrambled in fried rice tomorrow.

Jerry says Yamato talks to him by the hour at the tool shed and is obsessed with food. He has beriberi and perhaps sprue as well, feels wretched, Their diet is as poor as ours. He asked Jerry what he used to eat on the outside so Jerry told him an average day. He told Jerry about a P7 meal at the Pines Hotel now; a little soup, a chunk of pork, a little potato and small vegetable. I wish I could listen to the two of them—big and little in size—commiserating with each other. Jerry feels sorry for the sad little man. He tries so desperately, with his limitations, to do what is right.
