About Lewis C. Beebe

About the author: Lewis Charles Beebe (December 12, 1891 – February 2, 1951), Brigadier General; chief of supply (G-4) USAFFE, then Assistant Chief of Staff, USFIP. P.O.W. in the Philippines, Formosa, Japan, Korea and Manchuria.

About the diary: Kept by the author from December 8, 1941 to September 25, 1944; found in Pusan, Korea, by American troops and returned to the author thereafter. Published as Prisoner of the Rising Sun: The Lost Diary of Brig. Gen. Lewis Beebe, by Rev. John Beebe, Texas A&M University Press.

The Philippine Diary Project contains the author’s diary entries from December 8, 1941 to August 11, 1942, his departure from the Philippines for continued captivity in Formosa (Taiwan).
