About the author: Murata Shōzō (September 6, 1878 – March 15, 1957) Japanese diplomat, cabinet minister and entrepreneur. In 1943, made ambassador of Japan to the (Second) Republic of the Philippines in Manila; recalled to Japan in 1945. After World War II, became special ambassador to the Philippines to negotiate the normalization of relations including wartime compensation claims, in 1954.
