About Richard C. Mallonée

About the author: Richard Carvel Mallonée (May 16, 1899 — June 28, 1969). Colonel, US Army; served with the 21st Field Artillery Regiment, 21st Division, Philippine Army, in Bataan. As the published version of his diary says,

Colonel Mallonée first served in the Philippines in 1926 for three years — in field artillery at Stotsenburg. In 1941 he was called back to the Philippines to be senior instructor for the 21st Filipino Division Artillery. The Bataan campaign and the events of this book followed.
