About John Woodward Philip

About the author: John Woodward Philip (August 26, 1840 – June 30, 1900), American naval officer who reached the rank of Rear Admiral. Was stationed in the Far East, 1865-1868. About the diary: Derived from the author’s journal of a cruise in the Far East, 1865-68, included in Life and Adventures of “Jack” Philip Rear-Admiral United States Navy A Memorial Magazine in Four Numbers May, June, July and August 1903, by Edgard Stanton MacLay, The Baker & Taylor Co., New York, 1903. The Philippine Diary Project has only used the entries specifically devoted to the author’s visit to the Philippines in 1866, from February 5 to 27, 1866.
