About the author: Mary Ingraham Henry Howze (September 29, 1911 — February 26, 2009) wife of Gen. Hamilton Howze. At the time the diary was written, her husband was assigned to the 26th Cavalry (Philippine Scouts) at Fort Stotsenberg (1938-1940). She was, herself, the daughter of Major General Guy V. Henry.
