In the office all day. It is hard to perform a job for an absent official.
Rushed to office to confer with President Osmeña and obtain last minute instructions. At 10 a.m. General Sutherland said that the plane was in and ready to leave at 12 noon. Advised the President and party. Left the President’s house with a M.P. escort and arrived on time. President left at 12:30 p.m.
At 6:30 am attended wedding of treasurer Jimenez’s son. Attended dinner given by Mr. Serapio Canceran in Maceda’s home.
Very busy in Tacloban. Conferred with General Willoughby on request of people of Bantayan for 50 Cruisers. Conferred three times with President Osmeña on important matters. Attended Mass at 6:30 p.m. (First Friday)
At 3:15 p.m. General MacArthur, General Marshall and Colonel Lehrbas, & Colonel Egebert came to President Osmeña’s office. They are leaving on M-1.
In Tacloban. Had important conference at 3:30 p.m. with General R.J. Marshall, General Stivers, Colonel Kangleon and myself, about status of Kangleon’s forces & their payment.
Left at 9 a.m. for Basey Samar to inspect the 95th Infantry Regiment, commanded by Major Abia. Pleasantly surprised with appearance of officers & men. Left at 1 p.m. but my L.C.I. was grounded & we were not able to leave until 2 p.m. Returned to Tacloban.
After spending an uncomfortable night at Head Quarters 5th Air Force Fighter Command invited by Colonel Parker, left 8:20 a.m. from Burauen Air Field on an L-5 to Tacloban. Arrived 8:30 a.m. Called on President Osmeña & General MacArthur.
Left at 3:30 p.m. from home to Tacloban airfield. Left on an L-5 at 4:45 p.m. landed Burauen air strip at 5 p.m. This is the field where the Japanese paratroopers landed recently. Went to Colonel Parker’s place. Rotten evening. Too much drinking.
