Reached N.Y. 10 a.m. April 5th — left at noon on Black Diamond for Mauch Chunk. Went to N.Y. on 7th, returning home on 9th.

Moved 7.45 reached Zapote about 9. I took out 21 cos. of 14th. to reconnoiter rear & flank of position but discovered nothing of consequence.
My Co “E”, & Hasbroucks [Hasbrouck] with 45 scouts, all under Capt. Taylor made reconnaissance toward San Francisco de Malaban [Malabon] –left at noon– returned
Patton’s Batt’n — 3 Cos. & the scouts started on reconnaissance same direction but were recalled before making much progress.
4 Cos of 4th. Inf. under Major Bubb surprised by rebels from Malabon while on road to Dasmarinas reconnoitering. 4 killed, 20 wounded. Dead mutilated

My Batt’n returned to Bacoor, my company being posted as outpost at bridge over Bacoor river south of the town. One Batt’n of regt. now
