Sailed for Manila at 5 p.m. There was great excitement and hundreds of steamers followed us up to the Heads. The cruiser ‘Charleston’ with the ‘Sydney’ accompanied us. Sighted the S.S. ‘China’ at 6 p.m. Weather squally, strong sea running. Company ‘E’ reported a man overboard. Nothing strange happened on the run to Honolulu.
