Attended a marriage feast at the house of one of the Ledesmas in Jaro yesterday, from 1130 am. to 3 pm. One of the boys of the town, with a sincere desire to make me acquainted and comfortable, brought a pretty señorita to me on his arm and said “would you like to dance with this?” It would have been all right in Spanish, but one must beware of literal translations. –Major Orwig, senior inspector of constabulary, is miffed at us for an article we published in this morning’s issue of the paper. Spent most of the day downtown in conference with him, when I should have preferred to be at home. An effort at official tyranny.
