“Went over the hump” today as this ends the first day of my second year in the P.I. No way to celebrate it, and as far as that goes I can see very little to celebrate under the present circumstances. Rumor today that Germany has surrendered to Russia. This is too fantastic to even believe. No news here. Still nothing but hope of moving, and now that there is no more artillery fire not so much need of it. We desperately need more food, and also shelter before the rainy season. Many dead lying around Cabcaban [Cabcaben], mostly Filipinos, but numerous Americans. No attempt has been made to bury them. It is a hell of a mess.
