27-Sept-45

This morning at around 0700 we pulled into Manila Harbor and dropped anchor some distance from shore. Toward evening at around 1700 we pulled anchor again and started to move closer to shore, but traveled very slowly. At 2030 our ship pulled up to a sunken Jap. ship not too far from shore and tied up to it. There are many ships out here in Manila Harbor and there are also quite a lot of sunken ones projecting part way out of the water. From the port hole right next to my bunk I can reach out and almost touch the sunken Jap. ship that we are tied to. The water in Manila Harbor must not be exceedingly deep or the sunken ships wouldn’t stick so far out of the water.
