The Israelis moved into W. Beirut following assassination of Bashir & fight between leftist Muslims & Lebanese Army. Pres. Marcos & Imelda arrived—the usual mil. ceremony which he said was more impressive than anything he’d seen here before. We had a good meeting & then a beautiful state dinner in the Rose Garden & entertainment “the 5th Dimension” on the So. Lawn. I think they will go home reassured & confident of our friendship.
