A los 6 del dicho, al Oeste, en 13o. En este día vimos tierra y fuimos a ella, y eran dos islas, las cuales eran no muy grandes, y como fuimos en medio de ellas, tiramos al Sudoeste, y dejamos la una al Noroeste y así vimos muchas velas pequeñas que venían a nos, y andaban tanto que parecía que volasen y tenían las velas de estera, hechas en triángulo, y andaban por ambas partes, que hacían de la popa, proa, y de la proa, popa, cuando querían. Vinieron muchas veces a nosotros y nos buscaban para hurtarnos cuanto podían, y así nos hurtaron el esquife de la [nao] capitana, y otro día lo recobramos. Allí tomé el Sol, y la una de estas islas está en 12o 2/3 [Agana (Guam)], y la otra está en 13o y más [Rota] [Islas Marianas]. Esta isla de los 12o está con la de los Tiburones Oesnoroeste – Estesudeste, y pasáis largo 20 leguas de la parte del Norte, y de la isla de los 12o partimos a los 9 del dicho en la mañana y fuimos al Oeste 4a del Sudoeste.
Las Islas de los Ladrones está de Gilolo [Filipinas] 300 leguas.
On the 6th (March), to W., in 13°. This day we saw land, and went to it, and there were two islands, which were not very large; and when we came between them, we turned to the S.W., and left one to the N.W., and then we saw a quantity of small sails coming to us, and they ran so, that they seemed to fly, and they had mat sails of a triangular shape, and they went both ways, for they made of the poop the prow, and of the prow the poop, as they wished, and they came many times to us and sought us to steal whatever they could; and so they stole the skiff of the flag-ship, and next day we recovered it; and there I took the sun, and one of these islands is in 12⅔° [Guam], and the other in 13° and more (N. latitude) [Marianas]; and this island of 12° is with that of Tiburones W.N.W. and E.S.E. (and it appears to be 20 leagues broad at the N. end), from the island of 12° we sailed on the 9th of March, in the morning, and went W. ¼ S.W.
The islands of Ladrones are 300 leagues from Gilolo [Filipinas].
