Gen Santos told me of meeting at Malacanang and what happened. He told me of possible reaction of MacArthur on Valdez becoming C of S. He told me of what E said about Valdes. Gen S wished to say something about me but he withheld his remarks. The objection to me or anybody else is the intense spirit of nationalism. It seems the country is not ready.
