Today was very productive of rumors. There is a hospital ship in Mariveles harbor. Pure nonsense! Germany’s spring offensive has failed and Japan will have to pull out of here by July 1 (came from Jap officer to American, thru about six people, and then to me). Also, pure nonsense! All walking patients and all medical personnel with exception of few doctors going to start hiking for Manila in 1-2 days. Rest going to Little Baguio. This probably true. Jap officers bere all P.M. with Col. Gillespie. Much artillery fire last night but I slept thru most of it. Food unchanged. Flies getting worse again. Five months salary now saved. Oh, boy! Next month will give me a $1,000.
