Fri. Jan. 12/45

We have had an exciting week but nothing as much as last Sunday. After the main garrison left, a few soldiers came in from a lower camp and are supposedly guarding us from unruly elements on the outside. Filipinos are supplying us with some things we need such as meat and fruit. Camp discipline is quite upset. Individuals are not supposed to contact outsiders, either for conversation or business but the patrols are having difficulty in enforcing the law. I have done night duty and am to patrol the fence for two hours today besides my food detail work. We are all feeling better due to increased rations, but are anxious, too for the Americans to come in. We hear that they have landed in Lingayen Gulf, but nothing about a landing to the south. (We just heard a terrible roar of bombs exploding to the east of us.)
