Thursday 8 of said month, I measured the Sun at 86o 30’, with a declination of 23o 29’, our height thus being 19o 59’, and the course was Southwest, and there we sounded [sounding the ocean bed to test the depth] and we found 10 fathoms [1 fathom = 2 yards = 1.67 m]. That day, we saw land, flat beaches and it was the day of The Conception of Our Lady.
