Colonel Craig sent for me to come and work here; I’m to give anesthetics at Hospital #2. I’m happy as I feel I’m doing something constructive. This is the first field hospital I’ve ever seen. Most of the patients have shrapnel wounds, and a few have dysentery. The nurses quarters are in a thick jungle of bamboo trees with each nurses space marked off for her. Each bed has a shelter half over it; our protection against sun, rain and vermin. Rats race up and down the bamboo trees continually during the night. We are on wo meals a day and we are getting half-rations. I cam see where Denny is going to knock off a little tonnage. Although it will be painful, it will do me good.
