Heavy artillery fire all last night, but none from Corregidor. Early in A.M. there was much machine gun fire. Then this A.M. there was no firing of any kind. We were told that Corregidor had surrendered and that only Ft. Hughes and Drum were holding out. During the day there were many planes flying over low and a small amount of gun fire. So we don’t know just what the situation is, but I am afraid Corregidor has surrendered. Some guns are moving out of this area. Same food. Same flies! Same hot weather! Same lack of news! Same monotony! Same weakness! Same everything!!! John is feeling better and is considerably stronger. Wonder when we are getting out of here and into what.
