Tuesday 9 January 1565

Land was sighted and we sailed towards it, we wanted to land but we could not because the shore was very steep. The said land at an altitude; 10 degrees placed at northsouth would be about 2 leagues and from eastwest a little more than half a league similar to this figure. On this island, the Maestre de Campo Mateo de Saz and Captain Martin de Goiti went on shore on the bateles and found it inhabited by fishermen, good natured men, and no arms were found on them.
