Niggers closer than ever and took shots at our sentries. They are aggressive and we will have to kill them off before many days. New trenches before the road –at the open on left. Sent two shrapnel at “tree” at a big bunch, good shot, “set em a’goin.” Inspection of arms and shoes today and I think we will go out before many days. We owe them a thing or two. Robert’s 31st birthday & he is drunk as a goat. A hard rain with wind at noon.
