We buried the dead. Snipers from Assumption Convent fired at us while we did the work. In the main building we made shelters from wooden beds the Japanese had left behind. That afternoon there was the most terrific shelling we had ever experienced. There was no let-up. The main building was hit. At five o’clock the shelling increased and the building caught fire. We ran toward the Philippine General Hospital. As we ran, snipers fired at us. The place was packed full, there was no food, little water, less facilities.
