Outposts attacked last night & firing more less kept all awake. Captured several ins. Scouts. We put on city police & guard house at the church at the hospital. This city is Calamba and is nicely laid out with 3 principal streets, plazas, markets, many very fine houses. Strict orders against looting & burning. Yet I got some ivory images. All Spanish prisoners taken to Manila. Several 21st men killed today. Great sugar warehouses here. No active fighting today, yet the ins shot volleys from trenches across river. They are reinforced and are “sassy.” Art. opened on them in p.m.
