The Opinion of the People in Paimpol and Leon

My assistant, a sailor from Brittany, was at my desk fixing my papers when I asked him:

–Well, what is your opinion?

–Captain, said he, I agree with the crew …

–And what does the crew think?

–Captain, the crew … they think that the Americans are renegades, but that the Spaniards are not far behind.

As he rumbled along, he showed his contempt for Spain.

He was precise and simple!
