Diary of Basilio J. Valdes

April 14, 1942 – Tuesday

We received word that the raid over Davao, Cebu, Nichols Field and Nielson Airport had been successful. Our bombers (three B-17’s and eight B-25’s) had destroyed Japanese planes on the ground at Nielson Airport and at Nichols Field, had sunk two transports at Cebu and destroyed some enemy seaplanes and sunk one transport in Davao.

We were advised to prepare to leave next Tuesday for U.S. on the President Coolidge. Extreme secrecy is imperative.
