Diary of Juan Labrador, O.P.

September 2, 1942

The Secretary of Justice today revoked an order which had been issued a month ago by the military government prohibiting the official use of Spanish. Who would ever understand this government mechanism? A civil official revoking what the military had decreed.

Authoritative sources alleged that the justices and judges protested that they could not administer justice without the language of the Arellanos and the Araullos, and they could hardly deliberate in Tagalog or in Japanese, as the new administrators would want them to do.
