July 14, 1944

This morning a tenant girl from the farm arrived, very frightened, as she and 25 other companions had encountered fighting along the way. The Japanese were passing through a barrio and the guerrillas ambushed them. The guerrillas started to flee after the ambush and the girl and her companions were right in the midst of the fleeing guerillas. Fortunately, nobody got shot. Shortly after the ambush, the Japanese came back and “penetrated” the area and many civilians were killed. It is very unsafe to be outside of the city.
