I board the ship at Manila with a perfect contempt for death. Then I wait. The steamer is supposed to leave at three. It is three o’clock. It is six o’clock, and still there is no sign of our leaving. I hear that there is an exchange of telegrams with the Hongkong office on account of the German reservists.
