They tell me that we’re stopping at Thursday Island to pick up a couple of pilots to take us through the Great Barrier Reef. Our final destination is Sydney, way south of here. A radio message intercepted from Japan reports that the S.S. “Mactan”, Red Cross Hospital ship, has been sunk with all hands on board. That’s us! But we don’t believe it, although why they haven’t is a mystery.
