October 23, 1944

I had a very restful night, and am now improving. John, our cook, is preparing extra food for me as I must gain and “be strong for our ‘boys’ when they arrive!”

Coné and the children are well, except Dolly has a cold with a slight fever.

No American planes flew over today. Negros was bombed yesterday, and we could hear it as the wind was blowing from that direction. The American bombers are after the airfields, and the Centrals (which produce alcohol) are machine gunned.
