Passed into Manila Bay, Corregidor island on our starboard, about 2 or 3 P.M. came abreast of a little village of thatch. Above it was the flag. I am not sentimental, but it brought a lump into my throat and a cheer from the transport. Then Cavite and then you could see the masts of the shipping off Manila. Then we made out the Oregon, the first time I had seen her. ‘ It was raining hard and saw very little of the city.
